Description

Basics of Bioinformatics

This course provides an opportunity to learn and apply the fundamentals of bioinformatics and molecular modeling techniques using the specialized app Molecule World™ and BLAST.

This course provides an opportunity to learn and apply the fundamentals of bioinformatics techniques, using a series of programs and databases that deal with DNA and protein data.  Guided by instructors, participants will use sample datasets to work within programs such as BLAST, UCSC Genome Browser, Clustal, ORFinder and Uniprot.  We will explore basic tools and techniques for sequence analysis and alignment, comparative genomics and proteomics, structure analysis and alignment, as well as other common bioinformatics problems.
