This online course is designed to help working professionals and non-UF students better understand how to use a theory-driven, evidence-based, systematic crime prevention process to make people, places, and assets safer and more secure.
The course includes critical readings, video/audio lectures, discussions, and case study examples, including recorded interviews with offenders and actual crime video footage, and other recent research that discusses crime and loss control analysis and methods.
The course involves 6 modules (listed below) that build on each other. There are also 6 very short quizzes to assess students’ course content understanding and application.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Review differing crime and loss problems
- Identify how environmental crime theories help explain crime events and prevention
- Explore private crime and loss prevention principles and structures
- Apply SARA problem-solving and the scientific method to control specific crimes
Course Delivery
Unlike a traditional classroom-based course, you do not need to show up to class at a specific time every day in an asynchronous online course. You will have six months to complete the course at your own pace. Instead, you need to complete readings, online lectures, assignments, quizzes, and discussions. Although some of the activities will be ungraded, it is still required that you complete all activities within this course.
