This self-paced HazWoper education course on the Internet meets the OSHA/EPA training requirements for workers performing hazardous waste site functions in accord with the provisions of 29 CFR 1910.120. The regulation stipulates that employers at hazardous waste sites, and at many other "sites" as further defined by the regulation, shall ensure that all workers with the potential of chemical exposure will receive a minimum of 40 hours of waste site health and safety training and 24 hours of on-the-job training at the worksite.

About the Course

Content for the academic portion of the course will be provided through text, manuals, web sites, assignments and exercises. Students will also be required to participate in hands-on training in the proper use of personal protective equipment, site control, safe work practices, and the use of engineering controls an employee can use to help the employer reduce waste site hazards.

Upon completion of the online section of the 40-hour class, students must sign up for 8 hours of hands-on training at UF/TREEO and complete a final exam in order to fulfill certificate requirements. The proctored final exam should be scheduled with UF/TREEO, yet can be taken at your work-site. Students have six months to complete the course.

• clean-up operations--required by a governmental body, whether federal, state, local, or other
  involving hazardous substances-- that are conducted at uncontrolled hazardous waste sites; 
• corrective actions involving clean-up operations at sites covered by the Resource Conservation
  and Recovery Act of 1976 (RCRA) as amended (42 U.S.C. 6901 et seq.); 
• voluntary clean-up operations at sites recognized by federal, state, local, or other governmental
  body as uncontrolled hazardous waste sites; 
• operations involving hazardous wastes that are conducted at treatment, storage, and disposal
  facilities regulated by Title 40 Code of Federal Regulations Parts 264 and 265 pursuant to
  RCRA, or by agencies under agreement with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to
  implement RCRA regulations; and 
• emergency response operations for releases of, or substantial threats of release of, hazardous
  substances regardless of the location of the hazard.

Requirements for Online Courses:

• Courses must be completed within six months from date of registration. Certificate will be issued on the date you pass the final exam.
• You must complete the coursework before taking the hands-on portion of the course.
