Certification and Accreditation

UF/TREEO Center has received EPA-accreditation to offer lead-based paint activities courses pursuant to 40 CRF Part 745, Subpart L (61 FR 45778, August 29, 1996). This course is only approved for purposes of certification under Section 402 of TSCA.

EPA's lead training and certification rules went into effect on March 1, 2000 in Florida. If you do lead work in target housing or child-occupied facilities, you must be accredited by EPA Region 4.
At the completion/test passage of our initial course, UF/TREEO issues a "Certificate of Course Completion." This certificate will serve as an interim certification for an individual for 6 months. This interim certification allows you to conduct lead-based paint activities in Florida without being in violation of the law during this time period. Please note that the interim certification exists only for completion of initial courses, not the refresher courses.

For you to receive EPA's "Certificate to Conduct Lead-Based Paint Activities," you must submit an "Application for Individuals to Conduct Lead-Based Paint Activities," to EPA, along with the appropriate fee. EPA will review your application and once approved, require you to sit for an EPA Certificate Exam. After you successfully complete their exam, then EPA will issue your certification. Course refreshers are required every three years.
