Approved by the FDEP for Distribution Level 1-Students must be level 2 Distribution System Certified before taking this class

   

 

This three day course will prepare the participant to successfully apply for and take the Florida Level 1 water distribution operators exam. Topics include managing the operational and maintenance needs of water storage and distribution facilities; distribution system water quality concerns and disinfection; water distribution system safety; interpreting and applying Federal, State and Local rules and regulations; planning and record keeping requirements; personnel and program management; community interaction and public relations.  All students will  practice taking simulated tests. Upon completion of the training, the student will receive a certification of course completion that can be used to apply for the Level 1 State examination. 

 

At the conclusion of the course, the participant will be able to:

 

  1. Discuss the operation, maintenance and management needs of a water distribution system serving 100,000 or more persons
  2. By interpreting Federal, State and Local rules and regulations, identify the water quality concerns and disinfection needs of water distribution systems
  3. Describe the safety practices and programs related to water distribution system operation and maintenance
  4. Discuss the administrative requirements of water distribution system management
  5. Discuss the supervisory skills required of water distribution system managers
  6. Demonstrate the ability to perform math calculations related to the operation, maintenance and management of a water distribution system
  7. Demonstrate the ability to take computer based tests

 

Along with printed handouts, all students will receive a copy of the California State University, Sacramento manual Manage For Success.

Course Instructor

Glynn Stoffel, CET
Mr. Stoffel is a Certified Environmental Trainer (CET) and owner of GLS Environmental Associates.  He has over 30 years experience in maintaining and managing underground utility systems.  As a training consultant, he has delivered thousands of hours of training throughout the country on the safe operation, maintenance and construction of water, sewer and storm drain systems, including the development of a series of courses to assist construction inspectors in obtaining NICET certification.  He also provides training in water system security, emergency response planning and asset management.  In addition to his work with the TREEO center, he conducts training for the Maryland Center for Environmental Training at the College of Southern Maryland, the Technology Transfer (T2) Center at the University of Maryland and the Environmental Training Center at Delaware Technical & Community College.  He has a BS in Business Administration from the University of Baltimore and is recognized as a Certified Environmental Trainer and Certified Instructional Technologist by the National Environmental, Safety and Health Training Association.
