Description

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is design for personnel who have accrued significant work experience and knowledge in the solid waste industry. This course is approve as refresher training for operators at Solid Waste Facilities. Day 1 Topics includes: Solid Waste Management Basics and Regulations, Environmental Concerns with Waste Handling Facilities, Screening for Prohibited Materials, Managing Special Wastes, Health and Safety or if Day 2 is taken Compliance Inspections, Siting, Heavy Equipment, Transfer Station Operations/Layout and Materials Recovery Facilities Operations and Layout.

Course is approved through June 2026


Course Objective

At the completion of the training the student should be able to discuss the basics of solid waste &  operations; environmental concerns with waste handling facilities; screening for prohibited materials; managing special waste; transfer station operations and materials recovery facilities operations.

Participants must be present for entire course to receive continuing education credit and a Certificate of Attendance. There is not an exam requirement associated with the course.

This course is the morning portion of Day 1 or you may take Day 2, of the three-day course: Initial Training for Operators of Landfills and Waste Processing Facilities
 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Solid Waste:

  • Operators who have successfully taken the initial training course and need contact hours to maintain an active status in Florida solid waste training database.
