Description

Planning for Workplace Emergencies is an introductory course providing guidance to those responsible for developing an emergency response plan at workplaces of various sizes.  The course focus is on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s requirements for emergency action plans and fire prevention plans to help protect lives and property. The course will cover the key steps for emergency preparedness, identifying potential emergencies, and preparing, implementing, and continuous improvement of emergency response plans.  

Course Objectives

  • Students will participate in tabletop exercises to help identify and prepare for workplace emergencies   
  • Students will be able to identify the required elements of emergency action and fire prevention plans 
  • Students will practice preparing an emergency action plan 
  • Students will analyze emergency action plans to identify deficiencies and provide recommendations for improvements  
  • Students will be able to identify methods of continuous improvement of the response plans
