Description

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The University of Florida’s TREEO Center course for Water Distribution Systems Operator- Level Two and Three is designed for the system operator who desires to be certified by the State of Florida Operator Certification Program. The course includes the necessary material a person would need to know while working in the field of drinking water distribution.

The course covers a wide variety of topics, and is taught by qualified instructors.   The class is a 32 hour training session over 4 days.  
 
Each student is issued the manual “Water Distribution System Operation and Maintenance” 7th edition, published by the CSU Sacramento, as well as all the course material presented in PowerPoint format. The students are given opportunities to test their knowledge where they take practice tests based on the material presented during the class.

At the conclusion of the course, the participant will:
  1. Explain the State and Federal water quality requirements for water distribution systems
  2. Describe how a water distribution system is designed and constructed
  3. Describe the operation and maintenance tasks of the water distribution system operator
  4. Be able to solve math problems required of the water distribution system operator
  5. Describe problems found in distribution systems and corrective action
  6. Demonstrate the ability to take mulitiple choice tests
     

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This class is approved by the FDEP for both Level 3 and 2, so no additional course is needed to sit for the Distribution Level 2 Exam, once the Level 3 license is issued.

Students, please be aware to qualify for the state exam you will need either a high school dipolma or a FL Dept of Education approved GED.  Online GED's are not accepted by FDEP.

INSTRUCTOR'S BIOGRAPHY

Glynn Stoffel, CET

Mr. Stoffel is a certified environmental trainer and consultant with extensive experience in maintaining and managing underground utility systems.  As a training consultant, he has delivered thousands of hours of training throughout the country on the safe operation, maintenance and construction of water, sewer and storm drain systems. His consulting services include distribution and collection system O&M program development and CMOM program management.  In addition to his work with the TREEO center, he conducts training for the Maryland Center for Environmental Training at the College of Southern Maryland and the Technology Transfer (T2) Center at the University of Maryland.  He has an AA in Civil Engineering Technology and a BS in Business Administration (Management) from the University of Baltimore.  The Board of Certified Safety Professionals recognizes him as a Certified Environmental Safety and Health Trainer (CET).

Daniel Pfleiderer

Daniel Pfleiderer (Rick) recently retired as a Director of Water Resources. He graduated with a BS in Environmental Science and obtained his MBA in Technology Management.

He started his career as an intern for Six Flags NJ and worked at a municipal owned WTP. He left that position and accepted a job at a privately owned WWTP with tertiary treatment, collection system and a distribution system supplied by wells. He then became a Project Manager for one of the largest contracts in NJ and was responsible for customer service, water treatment, distribution, wastewater treatment and collection systems. He was promoted several times and became a Division Director responsible for several systems. These positions included managing union and non-union work forces and working with municipal and private companies. As Director of Water Resources he was responsible for a DAF and conventional WTP, lab, reservoirs, water shed and distribution system.

He maintains the highest licenses for Water and Distribution with NJ, SC, Texas and Association of Board of Certifications. He is also certified in the second highest in Wastewater Treatment in NJ, SC and the Association of Board of Certifications.  In addition, he holds the highest license in NJ for wastewater collections and the second highest in Industrial Treatment. He is certified in ICS 100, 200 and 700.
