| Description | COURSE DESCRIPTION This five day course provides guidelines for acceptable practices for testing and annual inspection of backflow prevention assemblies used in cross-connection control programs. At the end of the course, an individual evaluation is administered to those who choose to participate in the voluntary certification program sponsored by the UF TREEO Center. * It is highly recommended that students do their best to complete their assigned homework during the allotted time of the course to ensure they are able to comprehend and understand the material. Students are also expected to spend two hours each evening studying the material to prepare for the exams.
This course is for Tester Certification only. For Repair Certification, you must take the Repair Certification and Maintenance Course. Backflow Prevention Assembly Testers hold valid certification for two-years from the date of initial certification and/or recertification. We give a third year as a grace period. Once the three years have passed, you will need to take the Initial certification again.
If you do not pass the final exam and hands-on testing, you are able to return to re-test. A fee of $100 will be charged and must be paid prior to receiving your certificate.
Daily breaks are scheduled. You are on your own for lunch.
Course Objective
The Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester is needed by administrative authorities around the country to assure the backflow prevention assemblies installed continue to protect the drinking water. The Backflow Assembly Tester course is a rigorous five-day course that meets all American Backflow Prevention Association standards for certification in backflow assembly prevention testing. Time is spent in the classroom and the working wet lab. Students receive hands-on and practical instruction on how to test backflow devices. Upon successful completion of a hands-on test in the lab and a written exam, students are awarded a certificate as a Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester.

Those individuals working in water and wastewater professions including: irrigation specialists, landscaping, fire prevention, maintenance personnel, builders/developers, and plumbers.

Certification and Accreditation
The UF-TREEO Center only issues Certificate of Attendance and Certificates of Completion. UF TREEO is the ONLY Training Provider in the State of Florida that is Endorsed by Florida Section American Water Works Association(FSAWWA). Upon completion , you will receive a separate Certificate from the Association aknowleging the endorsement.
The TREEO Center does NOT issue backflow licenses.
Certified Backflow Prevention Assembly Testers must check with their local water purveyor to find out what other requirements are necessary. Some water districts may require the backflow tester to also be a State licensed plumbing contractor, while other water suppliers may require the backflow tester to be a licensed plumber and certified repair technician.
Florida Statutes require any person installing or repairing a backflow prevention assembly for a customer be a state licensed plumbing contractor.
