Description

COURSE DESCRIPTION

  • This half-day 4-hour course, held in the morning, reviews requirements for inspectors and updates you on the most recent EPA, OSHA, DOT and Florida asbestos regulations
  • The course includes Florida-specific interpretation of regulations
  • This course has been approved by the EPA and the State of Florida for persons wishing to receive Reaccreditation. To be reaccredited, you must provide proof of having successfully completed the initial EPA-approved training course and any annual refresher courses in the discipline in which you seek reaccreditation. If your initial and refresher course certificates were not issued by UF TREEO, you must email a copy of your initial and last refresher certificates to our registrar, Kady Morris kadymorris@treeo.ufl.edu , to be verified before the class begins.
  • The cost of the course includes course materials and the examination at the end of the course
  • Daily breaks are scheduled. You will be allowed a one hour break for lunch. 
  • Participant must be present for entire course time to receive CEUs and a Certificate of Reaccreditation
  • Required Exam:  25 Question Multiple-Choice/Closed Book with a 70% or higher to pass
  • An annual refresher course is required for re-accreditation
     

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This course is for persons who are seeking reaccreditation as Asbestos Inspectors. In Florida Asbestos Inspectorsmust work under the direction of a Florida Licensed Asbestos Consultant.

Persons who plan to do asbestos work in other states should contact that state to verify that accreditation, licensure and other requirements are met. 


INSTRUCTOR BIOGRAPHIES

Toi Akien, LAC

Mr. Toi Akien's early career included combined studies of Chemical Engineering and Architecture. He served for half a decade as a Project Engineer for Balfour Beatty in Commercial Construction facilitating building projects for school districts, universities, and private corporate clients. He is currently an Environmental Scientist with an Engineering and Geotechnical Consulting Firm in Delray Beach, Florida. His many roles include managing and conducting asbestos inspections for the firms south Florida district, conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, soil and groundwater sampling, site contamination research assessment, and consulting. Toi is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Certified Inspector and Risk Assessor, an ACAC Certified Indoor Environmental Consultant (CIEC), and a Licensed Asbestos Consultant (LAC). Mr. Akien has extensive training experience garnered as an educator with the Palm Beach County School District and teacher in private local classes. He is the founder of an Environmental Inspections and Consulting Company with areas of expertise in Chinese drywall, lead-based paint, asbestos, mold, and radon having local government, municipalities, counties, corporate, and private clients. 

He has been an instructor with UF TREEO since 2017. 
 

Brian J. DuChene, PE, LAC

Brian serves as the statewide Manager for Facilities Consulting Services for Terracon, based in their Winter Park, FL office.  He has over 25 years of engineering and indoor environmental consultant experience with U.S. and international consulting firms.

Brian has provided instruction for asbestos and other courses offered by UF TREEO since 1989. He has co-developed the curriculum materials for UF TREEO’s AHERA Asbestos Inspector/Management Planner Refresher course and developed the curriculum for the Laws and Rules for FL Professional Engineers courses offered by UF TREEO. He also served as course director, and developed the curriculum for the accredited asbestos training courses provided by a large consulting firm.
 

Russell Stauffer, PE, LAC

Mr. Stauffer, PE and LEED-AP, is a Professional Engineer in Florida and New Jersey with a BS from Temple University and a Master’s degree from the University of South Florida.  He is a FL Licensed Asbestos Consultant.  Since 1986, he has had experience in the Asbestos Industry and has been involved in over 5,000 projects in all aspects from initial meetings and surveys to implementation of the abatement management plan.  He has been an instructor at UF TREEO since 1988.
