Navigating XMS

Modified: 09/28/2007 10:27 by WillemV - Categorized as: Navigation
XMS features three main ways to navigate: the Top Menu, the Search Function, and Bread Crumbs. These allow you to quickly move to the sections, students, registrations, etc. you need. Additionally, many screens in XMS offer direct links to other, associated areas. The Search Function is more elaborately explained on its own page.

The Top Menu

The Top Menu is located at the top of the screen and remains stationary. The Home button will take you to the default page you'd normally see after logging into XMS. The Registration, Payments, Deposits, and Reports buttons all include a pull down sub menu. Hover your cursor over them to reveal their sub menus.

The Administration button only appears for users with administrative permission. This is usually only one main person per department and perhaps a backup administrator. XMS Admins, as they are called, have the ability to add, remove, and modify user accounts.

Bread Crumbs

The top portion of most screens shows information indicating where you are within XMS. The type of record is displayed in orange CAPS on the right side.

The information along the left side, just below the main menu, shows more detail. It is known as "bread crumbs" because it shows the trail of how you got into this page from all the other pages, or how a particular page relates to other pages within the XMS hierarchy. You are able to click on any of the links to go directly to that record. Clicking on the student's name, for instance, will bring you to that student’s record.
